Local Rules

Local rules are defined on the back of the scorecards and, as necessary, on the notice board positioned in the outdoor entertainment area. Local rules do not replace the Rules of Golf with which all members should become familiar, but supplement the Rules as applicable to RMC Golf Club.

1. Out of Bounds:

2. Relief may be taken from: (Rule 25.1b(i))

3. Staked or small Trees:

Dress Rules

Members and visitors must conform with the stipulated regulations displayed on signs and notice boards in and around the Clubhouse.  Members are reminded of their obligation to ensure that their guests are correctly attired, and to insist that Green Fee players comply. The RMC Golf Club reserves the right to refuse admittance to, and the use of, any or all of the Club facilities to any Member and/or visitor who fails to comply.   Members and their guests should be aware that dress rules apply in the Clubhouse as well as on the course.

Etiquette

It is expected that RMC members and visitors will abide by the accepted rules and etiquette applying to the game of golf.  In particular, attention is drawn to the following examples:

  1. No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when the player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
  2. The player who has the honour should play before other players tee-up. If the players ahead are out of reach, the player should tee off before marking the card.
  3. No player should play until players ahead are safely out of reach. Players however, should be aware of their capabilities when applying this principle.
  4. In the interest of all, players should walk to their own ball and be prepared to play without delay when it is their turn to hit. Penalties for slow play will be applied by the respective match committees when considered appropriate.
  5. Players searching for a ball must immediately call through any following players waiting to hit, and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range.
  6. Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully repair all damage caused by the impact of the ball, foot prints, and strokes taken therein.  Rakes should be placed in the bottom of the bunker with the handle pointing towards the tee.
  7. Through the green, a player should ensure any turf cut or displaced by a stroke is replaced, pressed down and sprinkled with sand.  After players have holed out, any damage to the putting green made by the players footwear should be carefully repaired.

Smoking / Bottle tops

Members who smoke on the course are required to dispose of cigarette or cigar butts in rubbish receptacles and not to discard them on the course, especially on or near greens.  Please also place bottle tops in the rubbish bins as they damage our mowers to say the least.

Mobile Telephones

While it is impractical to totally ban mobile telephones in regular competitions, their use is strongly discouraged.  If they are used, they should be set on mute and only used out of sight and hearing of other players.

Course Maintenance

To ensure the maintenance of top quality fairways and putting greens, members and visitors are expected to pay particular attention to the repair of divots on the fairways (see (g) above) and to pitch marks on the putting greens.  Pitch mark repairers may be purchased in the clubhouse.

Local Rules require that during play on the RMC Course, members and visitors will carry a sand bucket and sprinkle sand on replaced divots and course damage. Sand buckets are provided by the Club and sand containers are located about the course.  Failure to comply with this rule may result in a member being refused permission to play at the discretion of the respective Match Committees.

Priority on the Course

A single player has no standing and should give way to a group of players of any kind.  Any group playing a whole round is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round.

If a group fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the group in front, it should allow the group following to pass. (see (d) above regarding penalties for slow play)

In Tuesday and other walk-up start competitions over 18 holes, groups coming off the 9th green should alternate with any groups waiting to tee off on the 1st hole.
